We have found new space! All daytime events will be taking place in Ford Hall, on the U of M East Bank Campus.
Due to some last minute events, Sexy Spring V will NOT be at Blegen Hall. We’re working on finding another building at the U to use and there are options that will work for us. As soon as we have confirmation on something we will post it here! Stay tuned lovelies!
The Sexy Spring V Cabaret Theme Announced: “Fairy Tales”!
As we looked over the growing list of performers in this year’s Cabaret (we’ll keep you waiting a little while longer, but will start announcing them soon!), we realized that they’re all storytellers of one sort or another. Imagine a naughty after-hours story time in the library, filled with fairies of every sort!
The Cabaret will feature dancers, singers, strippers, storytellers and other performers whose work addresses sex, sexual identity, and sexuality; gender and gender expression; body image and our culture’s impact on our experiences as fragile, strong, sexual, embodied beings.
There’s still time to get in on the show! If your work addresses our themes, we’d love to hear from you!
The Twin Cities Daily Planet recently published an article by Lance Hegland about the discussions he plans to facilitate at Sexy Spring about disability, aging, dating, romance, and sexuality. Thanks to Lance for submitting the article and to the Daily Planet for publishing it!
All skill-share facilitators, and anyone excited about Sexy Spring, are encouraged to promote Sexy Spring in any way they can! Go out there and spread the word!
Sexy Spring V presents the Fairy Tales Cabaret
June 14
8:00pm (doors at 7:00)
Intermedia Arts
$10 Suggested donation, no one turned away for lack of funds, no advance tickets
Once upon a time there were some sexy, open-minded people looking for some fun after a hard day of learning about each other, sexuality, gender, and sex…Please join us on Sexy Spring Saturday (June 14) for some “Fairy Tales” (and perhaps some faery’s tails, if we’re lucky) from the amazing performers who will entertain us as part of the Sexy Spring V Cabaret!
You’ll hear stories told in words, music, dance, drag, film, and burlesque from performers like Heidi Arneson, Venus DeMars, Brooke Aberlin, Justin Leaf, Kats Fukasawa, Sweet LillyBee, Catherine Lundoff, Sexualis, and Dr. Jacky Wackensmack and Dollface! Arrive early, the show is certain to sell out!
On Tuesday June 10th we will be holding a little shindig for anyone
interested in volunteering at Sexy Spring as well as everyone that plans
to present. It’s at the Firehouse in Powderhorn Park at 821 East 35th
Street from 6-8. We’ll have two kind of separate groups, one for
presenters on facilitating good skillshares and one for anyone that wants
to help during the event. For people interested in being a Vibes Watcher
(maintainers of the safer space) there will be some training and
discussion about safer space and dealing with conflict. If you’re
interested in helping us with anything from set-up to break-down to food
to hanging out at the desk come and hang out with us! There will likely
even be food!
Let me sum up:
Volunteers
Presenters
Food
Fun
Hope to see you there!
with love,
Sexy Spring Collective
p.s. if you can’t make it to this meeting and want to volunteer or
present, we’ll have another meeting the morning of the 14th. This isn’t
mandatory for presenters, but strongly encouraged!
In lieu of the pre-registration forms we’ve had in previous years, we’re asking all you prospective attendees to give us a shout if there’s anything you need to aid in your Sexy Spring experience. Such things can include but aren’t limited to ASL interpreters and large print or Braille reading materials. We will do our very best to try and fill such requests emailed to us by Friday June 6th with the resources we have available. We strive to accommodate as many people as possible and to help everyone have an enjoyable experience.
Sexy Spring V finally has a venue : Blegen Hall on the UMN West Bank Campus! See website for details and more to follow!
Attention! Tell your friends!
Workshop proposal forms are up on the workshop page! We’d love to have them by May 23rd by email, snail mail, or in person (or whatever delivery method you so choose). Workshops are a big part of what makes Sexy Spring what it is and we hope to get lots of good ideas from the Sexy Spring community and beyond!
Welcome to the new Sexy Spring website! You’ll find links to the workshop proposal forms on the workshops page and information about the cabaret on (you guessed it) the cabaret page.
